Delwara Jain Temple
Situated 2.5 km from the main city,
the Delwara Temples are exquisite
structures in marble. The temples
dating back to the 11th and 12th
century, are built of pure white
marble. There are five temples in
all:
Vimal Vaseeh dedicated
to Shri Adinathji.
Loon Vaseeh dedicated to Shri Neminathji.
Chaumukhji dedicated to Shri Rishabh
Deoji,
Shri Parshwanathji and Shri Mahavir
Swamiji.
The Vimal Vaseeh temple is dedicated
to the first Jain Tirthankar, Lord
Shri Adinathji. Built in 1031 A.D.,
the temple has immaculate carvings
& sculptures and an impressive
architecture. The temple of ten
elephants, Hasti Shala, is next
to the entrance and worth seeing.
Loon Vaseeh: Built
in 1231 A.D., this temple is dedicated
to the 22nd Tirthankar of Jains,
Lord Neminathji. The prayer hall
at the entrance is indeed impressive
with its high tower & small
'Jinalayas' or God's shelves. The
carvings & sculptures are intricate
and spell-binding. The pagodas,
pillars and ceiling are all delectably
detailed in carvings of animals,
birds & floral design. The other
temples in the group i.e. Shri Rishabh
Deoji temple, Chaumukhji temple
and Mahavir Swamiji temple are also
situated close by. They were built
after Vimal Vaseeh & Loon Vaseeh,
but are in no way less impressive
in grandeur, style and architecture.
They also have intricate marble
carvings and impressive columns
and reliefs.
